People, places and our journey
Since 1955, a pharmacy story rooted in Villafranca di Verona.
The origins
In 1955, Dr Giovanni Gabriele Mortari opened the pharmacy in Villafranca di Verona. Professional expertise, a passion for compounded preparations and attention to people accompanied its growth.
The laboratory is an important part of this story: a place where knowledge, precision and everyday work become compounded preparations and attention to individual needs. This approach to the profession helped shape the identity of Amafarmacia Mortari.

Villafranca’s landscape retains traces of its medieval origins: recognised as a free borough in 1185, it saw construction of Castello Scaligero begin in 1201. The fortress later became part of the Serraglio defensive system.
The pharmacy, founded many centuries later, belongs to the everyday life of the town. The castle tells the history of the area; the dispensary counter and laboratory tell a closer story, made of encounters and professional continuity.

Amafarmacia Mortari has been recognised by the Municipality of Villafranca di Verona as one of the city’s historic businesses. The recognition connects the continuity of the pharmacy’s activity with the memory of the town and the relationship built with people over time.
The recognition is also reported by L’Arena, in its article on Villafranca’s 35 historic businesses.

Recognition from the town
On 13 December 2021, the Municipality of Villafranca di Verona awarded Farmacia Mortari the title Bottega Storica, with the certificate recognising the commitment and passion devoted to more than thirty years of activity in the town.
The red oval plaque is now displayed beside the pharmacy sign. Here we also use it as a visual element of the story: the image is cropped directly from the original photograph, without reconstruction.

A portrait made of objects
Simona Klack and Francesco Condoleo Mortari created this display to represent Giovanni Mortari through objects belonging to his story: the infantryman’s cap, his glasses, pharmacist pin and red scarf.
It is not a graphic reconstruction: it is a commemorative object kept in the pharmacy. We therefore show it as it really is, a small visual summary of the person, profession and relationships that accompanied his life.

Milestones
Giovanni Gabriele Mortari opens the pharmacy in Villafranca di Verona, with particular attention to compounding and to relationships with people.
He applies for permission to open a dispensary in the Madonna del Popolo neighbourhood to meet the needs of residents in the new urban area.
After two years working alongside the founder, Simona Klack and his grandson Francesco Condoleo Mortari take over the pharmacy, bringing new energy to the path he began.
A renovation updates the laboratory and creates an area dedicated to point-of-care testing and telemedicine, alongside development of departments and team training.
The pharmacy at Via Pace 29 retains its name and continues its journey within the Amafarmacia identity, together with the Amafarmacia Peirano location in Grugliasco.
